Dear Camras' Families,
The second grade team would like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. We are all thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year. Our goal is to provide the best education possible and create a classroom community where each child feels safe and happy.
One of our top priorities for the children is Social Emotional Learning. Statistics have shown, this pandemic has affected children more so emotionally than academically. This is something we take very seriously. A child has a significant harder time focusing and learning if they are emotionally distraught, anxious, sad, or angry. We strive to make a “virtual environment” where the children feel welcome, feel excited to log on, feel they have a voice, feel they belong, and feel they are safe. Now, this does not mean we will decrease academic instruction, but it does mean we will be integrating a significant amount of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into the curriculum. If you are interested in reading the SEL standards in Illinois, here is a link below.

Curriculum is of the utmost importance for every child, every school year. The delivery of curriculum will look different this school year, and may change depending upon what is working and what reveals to become ineffective. We are excited and ready for this school year! Challenging it will be, but together we will succeed!
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
